Rodriguez Blocks Two Kicks In Team USA's Win Over Germany
KAWASAKI, JAPAN - Christopher Newport's Rob Rodriguez blocked two kicks in Team USA's 33-7 win over Germany to advance to the Gold Medal game of the 2007 World Championship of Football.
Rodriguez, who is the school's all-time leader in blocked kicks and punts, blocked two punts to help lead Team USA to the win. The United States will meet the winner of Japan-Sweden game in the championship on Sunday.
“From looking at film we saw that we could get it off the edge,” Rodriguez said. “Diezeas (Calbert) told me he was going to try and distract the upback and that gave me a clean shot. We left the door open for Germany and we needed somebody to step up and make play and I was able to do that.”
