Football Selected To Finish Second In 2006 USA South Coaches Poll
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Christopher Newport University's football program was selected by the coaches to finish second in the 2006 USA South Coaches Poll released Wednesday morning.
Ferrum College was picked in the preseason coaches poll to win the USA South football title. The Panthers have shared the USA South regular season title in 2001, 2002 and 2005.
The Captains have shared four of the five regular season titles since CNU began its football program in 2001. CNU was 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the USA South in 2005.
Ferrum received four of the eight first place votes for 46 points. CNU received three first place votes for 44 points. Averett and Methodist both tied for the third spot with 35 points with the Cougars receiving the final first place vote.
CNU opens the 2006 season on Saturday, September 2 at Rowan.
