Football To Host Washington & Jefferson In First Round Of NCAA Playoffs
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's football team, coming off a 55-7 win over Ferrum to clinch the USA South's automatic bid into the NCAA Playoffs, will host Washington & Jefferson this Saturday at POMOCO Stadium at 12 pm.
The Presidents went 9-1 in the regular season and 6-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference and received a Pool B bid into the NCAA Tournament. This will be the third time these two teams have met, with all three meetings coming in the NCAA Tournament.
Washington & Jefferson won both meetings at home and this will be the first time the Presidents and the Captains will meet in Newport News. Washington & Jefferson defeated CNU in the Captains second season back on November 23, 2002, 24-10. The second meeting came two years later when the Presidents were again victorious, this time by a score of 24-14.
The Captains are a perfect 5-0 at home this and are 24-7 all-time at POMOCO Stadium. CNU finished the regular season with an 8-2 overall record and 6-1 in the USA South. The winner of the CNU/Washington & Jefferson match-up will meet the winner of the Mary Hardin-Baylor/Hardin-Simmons game on Saturday, November 25.
