Rodriguez Selected To Play In 2006 Aztec Bowl

WACO, TX - Christopher Newport defensive back Rob Rodriguez has been selected to play for the American Football Coaches Association's (AFCA) Division III all-star team. The team will represent the United States against the Mexican National Team in the 2006 Aztec Bowl.

Rodriguez joins Tommy Fitzgerald and Justin Wood as the only players in program history to achieve All-American status and play in the Aztec Bowl. This will be the third straight season A CNU player as played in the Aztec Bowl.

Rodriguez was a d3football.com preseason All-American selection. He was the 2005 USA South Defensive Player of the Year. In 2006, Rodriguez was a 1st Team All-USA South defensive back and a 2nd Team All-Conference return specialist.

He totaled 25 solo tackles and assisted on 11 others for a total of 36. He finished with two tackles for a loss of six yards, intercepted three passes, broke up nine passes and blocked four kicks.

Rodriguez is one of 48 NCAA Division III seniors from around the country who will make up this year's squad. The game is scheduled for Saturday, December 16 at 8 pm at Estadio Victoria in Auguascalientes. The game will air live on Chitwood Sports Media.
