Rodriguez Shines In Aztec Bowl

AGUASCALIENTES, MEXICO - Christopher Newport University senior Rob Rodriguez helped the United States team defeat Mexico Saturday in the annual Aztec Bowl. Team USA won the all-star match-up, 28-7, in a game that featured the top Division III seniors in the nation.

Rodriguez, a defensive back and special teams standout, intercepted a pass in the second half and finished the game with two tackles. The Virginia Beach native had another tremendous season with the Captains in 2006, blocking four kicks and picking off three passes. He was selected as the first team captain in CNU football history and was the USA South's Defensive Player of the Year in 2005.

Rodriguez was the third CNU player to take part in the annual Aztec Bowl. Former Christopher Newport student-athletes Tommy Fitzgerald and Justin Wood also represented the university in the past.
