Six CNU Athletes Earn USA South Athlete Of The Week Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Six Christopher Newport athletes were named USA South Athletes of the Week for their accomplishments last week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Roland Hilliard was named USA South Football Offensive Player of the Week. The senior from Manassas, VA rushed for a season-high 207 yards on 40 carries with three touchdowns in the Captains 23-17 overtime win at Salisbury. He also caught two balls for 15 yards. Hilliard scored the game-winner in overtime from 15 yards out. He also scoredon runs of one and five yards.

Derek Shaw was named the USA South Men's Soccer Player of the Week. Shaw finished the week with three goals and four assists helping the Captains to a 3-0 week. He had a goal and an assist in CNU's 5-1 road win at Hampden-Sydney, added one goal and two assists in the Captains 5-0 win over Villa Julie and finished the week with one goal and one assist in CNU's 8-0 win over Huntingdon.

Marica Betoney was named the USA South Women's Soccer Player of the Week. Betoney tallied three scores in the Lady Captains only game last week, an 11-0 win at home over Peace.

Ashley Ezell was named the USA South Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week. Ezell finished 28th at the James Madison Invitational with a time of 21:47. She helped her team to a fourth place finish as the Lady Captains were the only Division III school competing on the women's side.

Jon Bunker was named the USA South Men's Cross Country Rookie Runner of the Week. Bunker finished 50th overall with a time of 28:18 at the JMU Invitational. He helped the Captains to a sixth place finish.

Amy Wampler was named the USA South Women's Cross Country Rookie Runner of the Week. Wampler placed 39th with a time of 22:13 at the JMU Invitational and aided her team to a fourth place finish.
