Six CNU Athletes Named USA South Athlete Of The Week

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Six Christopher Newport athletes were named USA South Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Emily Renkin was named USA South Women's Soccer Player of the Week. The sophomore forward recorded two goals and an assist in a 7-0 win at Ferrum.

Emily Low was named USA South Cross Country Runner of the Week. The Blacksburg, VA native finished fifth overall with a time of 23:08 in the Paul Short Invitational and helped lead her squad to a first place finish in the event.

Tony Fryer was named USA South Football Rookie of the Week. The VA Beach, VA native finished with one solo tackle, six assisted tackles, two came for a loss, including one sack in the Captains 30-14 win over Shenandoah.

Sarah Brown was named USA South Volleyball Rookie of the Week. The freshman from Williamsburg, VA averaged 5.6 kills in 14.6 attempts last week. She finished with a hitting percentage of .301 in 15 games and helped the Lady Captains to a 4-1 week.

David Woodson was named USA South Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week. The Gloucester, VA native finished 44th with a time of 28:02 and helped lead the Captains to a sixth place finish at the Paul Short Invitational.

Liz Bissell was named USA South Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week. The Wyckoff, NJ native finished sixth overall with a time of 23:17 and helped her Lady Captains squad to a first place finish at the Paul Short Invitational.
