Baseball Picked To Finish Third In USA South Preseason Poll
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Christopher Newport's baseball team was selected by the coaches of the USA South to finish third in the 2006 USA South Preseason Baseball Poll released Wednesday.
The Captains finished 25-16 in 2005, 11-8 in conference play.
Ferrum was picked to finish first with four first place votes, Methodist was chosen second with two first place votes and CNU was third with one first place vote. Rounding out the bottom four were NC Wesleyan fourth, Shenandoah fifth, Greensboro sixth, Averett seventh.
Ferrum is coming off the school's first USA South Tournament title in 2005 and ninth trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Christopher Newport opens the 2006 season February 11 at home as they host Frostburg St. in a double header with first pitch set for 12 pm.
