Baseball Sweeps Double Header From Hampden-Sydney

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's baseball team swept a double header against Hampden-Sydney, winning game one, 6-2 and game two, 5-1.

The Captains scored twice in the first and third innings and added a single run in the second and fourth innings in game one.

Kenny Moreland was dominating on the mound once again as he picked up his second win of the year in as many starts. Moreland tossed six innings, allowed two runs, one earned, while striking out seven and walking just one.

Kevin Moreland tossed the seventh and struck out one.

Eric Cole and Trae Bailey led the way as they each finished 2-for-3.

In game two, CNU lead 1-0 after the first and erupted for four runs in the bottom of the third inning. HSC scored its only run in the top of the seventh.

Mike Giarrizzi led the offensive attack going 3-for-3 with two runs driven in. Bailey, Mark Genovese, Justin Neumann and Alex Owen each finished with one hit.

Kyle Baumann tossed five innings to pick up his first win of the year. Baumann allowed four hits while striking out three. Ryan O'Donnell and Giarrizzi each tossed an inning in relief.

The Tigers fall to 0-4 while Christopher Newport improves to 3-0 on the year. The Captains return to action Wednesday as they host Randolph-Macon with first pitch set for 2 pm.
