Baseball Splits A Pair Of Games

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's baseball team fell to 27th-ranked Rowan but bounced back to defeat Bridgewater Saturday afternoon.

The Captains lost 6-4 to the Profs in game one. CNU got on the board in the bottom of the first on Ryan McDougal's RBI single that scored Joey Martin.

Rowan bounced right back to score four runs in the top of the third with the big blow being a bases loaded clearing double.

The Profs would add another in the fourth and sixth innings. The Captains scored once in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Kyle Baumann went five innings, allowing five runs, two earned, on eight hits. Tony Pasquariello, Cary Bruner, and Ryan O'Donnell combined to throw the final four innings and combined to allow just one unearned run in relief.

McDougal finished 2-for-3 with three RBI. Martin was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Against Bridgewater, CNU regrouped for a 4-3 win.

Staff ace Kenny Moreland improved to 3-0 on the year as the junior right-hander tossed a complete game allowing three runs on four hits and struck out 12.

Zach Hutchinson was 2-for-3, Trae Bailey finished 2-for-5 with two RBI, McDougal and Parker Neal each finished 2-for-4.

The Captains are now 6-1 on the year and return to action Tuesday as they host Salisbury with first pitch set for 2 pm.
