Five-Run Seventh Breaks A 3-3 Tie As Bridgewater Defeats The Captains 8-3

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Bridgewater College scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to extend CNU baseball's losing streak to three games Sunday afternoon in an 8-3 victory at Captains Park.

CNU struck for an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Bridgewater error that scored Lee Kennell.

The Eagles took the lead with two runs in the top of the third and extended their lead to 3-1 after a single run in the top of the fifth inning.

The Captains scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score at 3-3. John Corbin's RBI ground-out scored Jason Moody and Moody latered scored an a RBI single by Dave Deibler.

Bridgewater then scored all five runs off relief pitcher Matthew Tignor in the seventh. Brian Coffey started and went six innings allowigng three runs, two earned, three hits, walked four and struck out four. Tignor threw the seventh and allowed five runs, four earned on four hits, walked one and struck out one.

Trey Collier finished the day 2-for-4, Moody, Deibler and Charlie Hardie each had one hit for the Captains.

CNU falls to 2-4 while Bridgewater improves to 1-1.

The Captains return to action this Tuesday as they host Salisbury with first pitch set for 2 pm.
