Baseball Powers Past Southern Virginia, 13-3

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's baseball squad defeated Southern Virginia 13-3 Friday afternoon at Captains Park.

The game was called after the top of the seventh inning due to the Captains 10-run lead. It was also the final test before CNU begins its conference schedule.

The Captains scored five runs in the first and five more in the fourth. CNU added one in the third and two more in the fifth.

Ryan McDougal was 3-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored. Trae Bailey and Zach Hutchison each finished 2-for-3 and Eric Cole was 2-for-2 with four RBI.

CNU improves to 7-2 overall while Southern Virginia falls to 0-13. The Captains head for Danville, VA to take on Averett Saturday at 1 pm for both teams USA South opener.
