Baseball Sweeps Alma, 6-1 and 15-0

FORT MEYERS, FL - Christopher Newport's baseball swept a double header from Alma (MI), 6-1 and 15-0, at the Gene Cusic Classic Tuesday afternoon.

In game one, the Captains Steven Mingee picked up his first win of the year going six innings and allowing just three hits. Dave Deibler finished 3-for-3 with a double and two runs driven in. Charlie Hardie finished 2-for-2.

In game two, CNU's bats errupted for 15 runs. The man with the big stick in game two was Lee Kennel who finished 2-for-2 with a grand slam and a three-run double to finished with seven RBIs. John Corbin finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Jayson Basanes was 2-for-3 with two runs driven in, Trey Collier and Jake Brown each went 2-for-2.

Kenny Moreland picked up his first win of the year going seven innings and allowing just two hits.

The Captains improve to 5-7 overall on the year. CNU returns to action Wedneday as they take on Notre Dame College (OH), an NAIA squad, at 12 pm and 3 pm.
