Baseball Sweeps Two From Notre Dame College (OH)

FORT MEYERS, FL - Christopher Newport's baseball team swept its second straight double header, this time defeating Notre Dame College (OH), 10-5 and 5-4.

In game one, the Captains defeated Notre Dame, an NAIA squad, 10-5. Cary Bruner was the winning pitcher, earning his second win of the year.

John Corbin led the attack, going 3-for-4 and Rob Quinn finished 2-for-4. Brad Melton went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run in the second inning.

In game two, CNU won 5-4. The Captains scored the winning run in their final at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. Jayson Basanes walked and was forced out at second, but Jason Moody reached first. He then stole second and scored on Corbin's RBI hit.

Matthew Tignor picked up his first win in relief. Moody finished 2-for-4 while Corbin went 3-for-3. Mark Genovese was 2-for-3 in the win.

The Captains, winners of five straight, are now 7-7 overall. CNU returns to action the team's final two games in the Gene Cusic Classic. The Captains will play Alma (MI) Thursday, first pitch is set for 9 am. They then take on Hanover (IN) at 12 pm.
