Baseball Concludes Florida Trip With Two More Wins

FORT MEYERS, FL - Christopher Newport's baseball team concluded its trip to Florida with two more wins, upping the team's winning streak to seven games, with wins over Alma (MI) and Hanover (IN).

Against Alma, the Captains were victorious, 5-2.

Josh Hankins went four innings and picked up his first collegiate win. Brian Coffey pitched the final three innings for his first save.

Trey Colliee led the way going 3-for-4 with a double and John Corbin went 2-for-2 with a double and two walks.

Against Hanover, CNU won 13-1. Mike Cosby went 6 1/3 innings for his second win of the year. He also struck out eight to set a new school record for strikeouts in a career. He came into Thursday's game needing six to tie Scott Hudgins record of 298. Cosby now has 300 career strikeouts.

Rob Quinn led the way going 4-for-5 with a triple and three runs scored. Dave Deibler finished the game 2-for-3 with a double and Brad Melton cranked his second home run of the trip. He hit a two-run home run in the second inning.

The Captains are now 9-7 overall and return to action Sunday as they host Johnson & Wales. First pitch is set for 2 pm.
