Baseball Comes From Behind To Defeat Shenandoah, 9-5
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's baseball team came from four down to defeat Shenandoah 9-5 Sunday afternoon at Captains Park.
The Hornets struck first with a single in the top of the first inning, but the Captains countered to tie the score in the bottom of the inning.
However, Shenandoah would bounce right back and score two runs in each of the next two innings to lead 5-1. Christopher Newport would not go quietly as they tied the score at 5-5 with a four-run frame in the bottom of the third inning.
Reliever Ian Lenda took over for starter Kyle Baumann and tossed the final six innings allowing just one hit while walking one and striking out four to pick up his second win of the year.
The Captains took the lead for good with three runs in the fifth. CNU would add an insurance run in the sixth for the win.
Ryan McDougal led the CNU attack going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Mike Giarrizzi and Parker Neal each finished 2-for-4.
Christopher Newport improves to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in the USA South. Shenandoah falls to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Captains return to action Monday as they travel to Hampden-Sydney with first pitch set for 3 pm.
