Shenandoah Powers Past Baseball, 12-1

WINCHESTER, VA - Shenandoah's Taylor Dufrene gave up one run on four hits in eight innings of work to life the Hornets past Christopher Newport 12-1 Sunday afternoon in the rubber match of a three-game series.

The Hornets scored once in the third and fourth, twice in the fifth, seventh and eighth and added four in the sixth inning.

Mark Genovese and Rob Quinn each finished with two hits.

Shenandoah roughed up Captains starter Steven Mingee for seven runs, four earned on eight hits in five innings. He also walked four and struck out one.

Chad Blanchard, Josh Hankins and Kyle Baumann tossed one inning each to close it out.

Christopher Newport falls to 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the USA South. CNU returns to action Tuesday as they host College of Misericordia in a doubleheader beginning at 12 pm.
