Baseball Rolls Past Hampden-Sydney, 14-5

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Christopher Newport's baseball team piled up 18 hits in a 14-5 win at Hampden-Sydney Monday afternoon.

The Captains scored three in the first, one in the second and erupted for five in the fifth. CNU added a single run in the sixth and two each in the eighth and ninth innings.

CNU was lead by Mike Giarrizzi who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Alex Owen finished 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored. Trae Bailey was 3-for-6 with two doubles and two RBI and Eric Cole finished 2-for-5. Mark Genovese went 2-for-3 in the win.

Christopher Newport improves to 11-3 on the year. The Captains return to action Wednesday when they travel to cross-water rival VA Wesleyan with first pitch set for 2:30 pm.
