Corbin Continues His Hot Hitting, Belts His First Homer In CNU's 9-2 Win Over Piedmont NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport baseball player John Corbin continued his hot hitting belting a two-run homer to lead the Captains to a 9-2 win over Piedmont Monday afternoon. CNU struck first in the bottom of the fourth when Charlie Hardie's sacrifice fly plated Corbin. In the fifth, Corbin homered to left, scoring Trey Collier to increase the Captains lead to 3-0. The Lions would cut the lead to one, 3-2, with two runs in the top of the fifth off starter Kenny Moreland. In the seventh, Hardie reached on an error which scored Jason Moody to increase CNU's lead to 4-2. The Captains scored five in the bottom of the eighth, with the big blow coming off the bat of Moody, a three-run home run, his third of the season. Moreland pitched seven solid innings allowing eight hits, two runs, none earned while walking two and striking out nine to pick up his second win of the year. Cary Bruner pitched two scoreless innings and did not allow a hit, but did walk two and strikeout three to pick up his first save. CNU improves to 10-8 on the year while Piedmont falls to 5-8. The Captains return to action Saturday when they host Greensboro for a double-header. Start time for game one is 12 pm. |
