Baseball Uses 13 Hits To Defeat Cross-Water Rival VA Wesleyan, 8-3
VA BEACH, VA - Christopher Newport's baseball team clubbed 13 hits en route to the team's 8-3 win over cross-water rival VA Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon.
The Captains scored single runs in the second, third, fourth and ninth innings and pushed across two runs each in the fifth and sixth frames.
CNU also received six solid innings from starter Chad Blanchard, who improved to 2-0. The right-hander tossed six innings, allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits, walked two and struck out five. Kevin Moreland earned his first save by throwing the final three, giving up one run on four hits and striking out three.
Mike Giarrizzi led the way for the Captains going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Trae Bailey finished with two doubles and two runs driven in while Ryan McDougal went 2-for-4 with a triple. Parker Neal was also 2-for-4 and Eric Cole finished 3-for-5.
Christopher Newport improves to 12-3 on the year while the Marlins fall to 8-3. CNU returns to action this weekend when they head to Georgia. The Captains will take on Piedmont on Friday at 3 pm and Emory on Saturday at 11 am.
