Baseball Downs Randolph-Macon, 6-3

ASHLAND, VA - Christopher Newport's baseball team defeated Randolph-Macon 6-3 Thursday afternoon in a non-conference match.

Starting pitcher Chad Blanchard gave up three runs in the first inning but settled in and allowed just two hits in the next six innings to pick up his first win of 2005. He also struck out six batters. Cary Bruner pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Matthew Tignor pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save.

National Co-Player of the Week John Corbin finished the game 2-for-5, Dave Deibler went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and Ricky Medina finished 2-for-4.

The Captains improve to 11-8 overall and return to action Saturday for a USA South doubleheader against Greensboro College starting at 12 pm.
