Four-run First Inning Propels Greensboro Past CNU, 9-0 NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Greensboro College scored four runs in the first inning off starter Eben Brower and cruised to a 9-0 win Sunday afternoon. The first three runners in the first for GC reached base. Kevin Mong then grounded into a double-play, scoring the first run. With a runner on third, Taylor Kennedy singled to center scoring the second run, Chad Alligood followed with a single of his own and Jesse Sutton also singled to load the bases. Jeff Gregory then grounded a ball to second base where Ricky Medina could not field it cleanly allowing one run to score and Brower walked Anthony Corona scoring the fourth run before getting Jeremy Morrison to line out to centerfield to end the inning. GC would score once in the fifth, seventh and eighth and add two more in the ninth inning. Pride started Chatham Bray held the Captains to just four hits for the complete game shutout win. Trey Collier, Mark Genovese, John Corbin and Charlie Hardie each had one hit for the Captains. Brower pitched seven innings allowing 10 hits, six runs, three earned while walking two and striking out two. Cary Bruner pitched the eighth inning allowing one run on two hits and Jason Brown pitched the ninth inning giving up two runs on one hit and walked two. Greensboro is now 15-7 overall and 5-1 in the USA South. CNU drops to 12-10 overall and 2-4 in conference play. The Captains return to action Tuesday when they host cross-water rival VA Wesleyan. First pitch is set for 2:30 pm. |
