Baseball Drops 7-5 Decision To Piedmont
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's baseball team dropped a 7-5 decision to Piedmont Thursday afternoon at Captains Park.
The Lions struck first with an unearned run in the top of the second but the Captains responded with a single run in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at 1-1. In the top of the third, Piedmont re-took the lead with a single run, 2-1.
Christopher Newport tied the score once again in the bottom of the fourth, but the Lions countered with a three-run home run in the top of the fifth to take a 5-2 lead. The Captains got one run back in the bottom of the sixth and each team scored twice in the eighth frame.
Justin Neumann finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and Parker Neal was 2-for-4. Alex Owen finished 2-for-4 with a run batted in.
Bryce Morrison started and went three innings, allowed two unearned runs on two hits, but walked five and struck out one. Tony Pasquariello tossed two innings, gave up three runs on four hits and struck out one to take the loss. Josh Brinkman also went two innings, and gave up two hits and struck out two. Ryan O'Donnell threw the final two innings, gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits.
Christopher Newport falls to 19-11 overall while Piedmont improved to 12-19. The Captains return to action Friday as they head to NC Wesleyan with first pitch set for 3 pm.
