Baseball Falls At NC Wesleyan, 7-2

ROCKY MOUNT, NC - Christopher Newport's baseball team dropped its fourth in a row in a 7-2 loss at USA South rival NC Wesleyan Friday afternoon.

The Bishops took an early 1-0 lead off starter Kenny Moreland as they pushed across a run in the bottom of the first. The Captains however responded with its only two runs in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead.

NC Wesleyan countered with four in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good, 5-2. The Bishops would single insurance runs in the fifth and eighth frames.

Zach Hutchison was 2-for-3 while Mike Giarrizzi and Parker Neal each went 2-for-4. Trae Bailey was 1-for-4 and drove in the team's only two runs.

Moreland lasted seven innings, gave up six runs on 10 hits, and struck out five.

Christopher Newport is now 19-12 overall and 6-5 in the USA South. The two teams play again Saturday with first pitch set for 1 pm.
