Six Baseball Players Named All-USA South

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Six Christopher Newport baseball players were named to the USA South All-Conference team, the USA South announced Wednesday afternoon.

Junior hurler Kenny Moreland was named First Team All-USA South. The Springfield, VA native is 7-3 on the mound with a 2.06 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 74 innings pitched.

Shortstop Trae Bailey and reliever Kevin Moreland were named to the Second Team All-Conference.

Bailey is hitting .317 with a team-high 12 doubles, 23 runs scored, three home runs and 30 RBI. He also has 39 hits. Moreland led the Captains with four saves and has a 1.33 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 20.1 innings pitched.

First baseman Ryan McDougal, designated hitter Parker Neal and outfielder Mike Giarrizzi were named Honorable Mention All-USA South.

McDougal is hitting .321 on the year with 35 hits and 22 runs scored. He also has six doubles and has driven in 22 runs.

Neal, a freshman, currently leads the Captains in batting with a .351 average. He has 26 hits and six doubles to go along with 11 RBI.

Giarrizzi is hitting .322 with 28 hits and 17 RBI. He also boasts a 0.00 ERA in 10 innings pitched. The southpaw has allowed just two unearned runs and has struck out 17 batters.
