Baseball Rolls Past Randolph-Macon, 9-2

ASHLAND, VA - Christopher Newport's baseball squad rolled past Randolph-Macon, 9-2 Tuesday afternoon.

The Captains got a great pitching performance from Mike Giarrizzi, who made his first start of the year. The southpaw went six innings, allowed one run on four hits, walked two and struck out seven to earn his first win of the year.

Brandon Berry, Steve Millerleile and Kevin Moreland combined to throw the final three innings. The threesome combined to allow one run on three hits, one walk and three strikeouts to preserve the win.

Christopher Newport scored two runs each in the first, third, fifth and ninth and added a single run in the top of the eighth.

Ryan McDougal was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Michael Fawley was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two steals. Eric Cole smacked his first home run of the year and finished 1-for-4 with three RBI. Mark Genovese went 2-for-5.

The Captains (21-15) return to action Wednesday as they travel to Lynchburg with first pitch set for 3 pm.
