Cole's Single In 10th Lifts Baseball Past Lynchburg. 3-2

LYNCHBURG, VA - Eric Cole singled home the winning run in the top of the 10th to give Christopher Newport's baseball team a 3-2 win at Lynchburg Wednesday.

Mike Giarrizzi doubled to lead off the 10th and advanced to third on a Hornet error. Cole, the next batter, followed by lacing a single to left center to plate the go ahead run.

Kevin Moreland relieved his brother, Kenny, who started, in the 10th and got the first two batters out before giving up a double but induced a pop out in the infield to end the game. Kevin Moreland improved to 2-2 on the year.

Kenny Moreland went nine innings, allowed two runs on five hits, walked five and struck out four.

Zach Hutchison and Trae Bailey each finished 3-for-5 for CNU. Michael Kurbjeweit and Alex Owen finished 2-for-4 while Cole and Genovese were each 2-for-5.

Christopher Newport improves to 22-15. The Captains return to action next Monday when they travel to Dickinson with first pitch set for 3 pm.
