Baseball Clips Mary Washington, 3-0

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's baseball team won its final home game of the year by knocking off Mary Washington, 3-0, Thursday afternoon on Senior Day at Captains Park.

The Captains scored twice in the second and added one more in the fourth. Alex Owen was responsible for driving in all three CNU runs. Owen had a two RBI single in the second and drove in the third run with a single in the fourth.

Owen finished 2-for-4 and Mark Genovese was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Kenny Moreland was terrific on the mound in his final start of the year. The junior right-hander went eight innings, allowed no runs on four hits, walked none and struck out six.

Senior Cary Bruner tossed a perfect ninth and struck out two to pick up his first save of the year.

Christopher Newport improves to 24-15 on the year. The Captains hit the road for their final two games of the year and will start the road trip at No. 9 Salisbury on Saturday with first pitch set for 2 pm. CNU will conclude the year Sunday at York (PA) with game time set for 12 pm.
