Baseball Drops Regular Season Finale, 6-5 At York (PA)

YORK, PA - Christopher Newport's baseball squad dropped a 6-5 decision to York (PA) in the team's final regular season game Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans struck first with two runs in the bottom of the second. The Captains cut the lead in half in the top of the third with a single run but York countered with two more in the bottom of the inning to extend its lead to 4-1.

CNU plated four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 5-4 lead but they could not hold on as the Spartans scored once in the fifth and scored the game-winner in the bottom of the eighth.

Zach Hutchison finished 2-for-5 with two RBI. Parker Neal and Michael Kurbjeweit each finished 2-for-4.

Ian Lenda went 7 1/3 innings, allowed six runs, five earned, on nine hits while walking one and striking out two. Kevin Moreland got the final two outs in the eighth.

Christopher Newport finishes 2007 with an overall record of 24-17.
