Moreland Named CPL Co-Pitcher Of The Week

RALEIGH, NC - Christopher Newport baseball player Kenny Moreland was recently named the Coastal Plains League Rawlings Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Moreland, a rising junior currently playing for the Peninsula Pilots, a team located in Hampton, VA, made four appearances on the week, all in relief. Moreland had three saves, surrendered only five hits, allowed just three runs, all unearned while walking one and striking out three.

For the year, Moreland is 4-1 in 16 appearances with a 0.68 ERA. In 26.1 innings, he has allowed 24 hits, struck out 30 and walked only five batters.

The Pilots are currently 25-16 and sit in a virtual tie for first place in the North Division during the second half of the season.

Moreland was named the USA South's Rookie Pitcher of the Year in 2005 and followed that up with a First Team All-USA South selection in 2006. He was also a Second Team All-State choice in 2006.
