Men's And Women's Cross Country Both Selected To Repeat As USA South Champions
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Christopher Newport's men's and women's cross country teams were both selected to repeat as USA South Champions in the 2006 preseason coaches poll released Wednesday morning.
On the men's side, CNU has won the past 13 conference championships, 11 under current Head Coach Keith Maurer. They have also won 20 of the last 21 championships.
The Captains received five of the six first place votes and 25 total points while Greensboro College received the a single first place vote and 19 total points. Shenandoah was selected to finish third with 14 points. Ferrum and Methodist finished in a tie for fourth with 12 points and Averett rounded out the top six with eight points.
On the women's side, the Lady Captains have won eight conference championships and 10 of the last 11.
CNU received seven of the eight first place votes and 49 total points while Greensboro received the final first place vote and 40 points.
Both teams kick-off the 2006 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 2 at the Marlin Invitational hosted by Virginia Wesleyan.
