Field Hockey Drops Washington & Lee, 4-1

NEWPORT NEWS, VA_- Christopher Newport's field hockey team captured its third straight win Sunday defeating Washington & Lee 4-1.

Maggie Nugent put the Lady Generals on the board early in the first period, but the Lady Captains responded for four unanswered goals en route to the win.

Ashley Traylor scored the first of her two goals with 10:32 left in the first half with Kelly Broadhurst assisting. Annie Gehring scored the game-winner with 6:49 left in the first half with Lindsay Kelly assisting. Jacque Mayer scored CNU's final goal in the first half on a penalty stroke with 3:09 remaining.

Traylor added her second goal of the game with 2:38 left in the contest. Rhiannon Thomasson had the assist.

CNU out shot Washington & Lee 15-12. Hannah Brown had five saves in goal.

The Lady Captains are now 6-3 on the year. CNU returns to action this Wednesday as they host Mary Washington at 4:30 pm.
