Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, VA - Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse team easily defeated Shenandoah on the road Sunday afternoon by a score of 22-4.

The Lady Captains led just 3-2 with 14:01 left in the first half, but CNU erupted for seven straight goals to take a 10-2 lead with 6:50 to play in the opening stanza. Christopher Newport led 12-4 at the break.

CNU held the Hornets scoreless for the entire second half and managed to score 10 more times for the team's third straight USA South win of the year.

Kristen Conques led the Lady Captains with five goals and one assist. Bonnie Hansen added four goals while Kristyn Hankins found the back of the net three times. Shayna Sargent added three goals and one assist, Katie Doherty had two goals and two helpers and Kylene Jennings also scored twice.

Hannah Seidl and Holli Sawyer each scored once while Lisa Thomson added one goal and one assist. Brooke Falck, Christine Mike and Natalie Gilbert each added two assists.

Christopher Newport out-shot Shenandoah, 38-19. Theresa Sparks had five saves in goal and played just over 47 minutes. Gayle Robinson finished the game, allowed no goals and made six saves.

The Lady Captains are now 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the USA South. CNU returns to action Thursday as they host Randolph-Macon at 4 pm.
