Women's Lacrosse Runs Past Averett, 19-3
DANVILLE, VA - Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse team won its fourth straight USA South match by defeating Averett 19-3 Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Captains scored the first seven goals of the game. AU did not record its first goal until 12:35 left in the opening stanza. CNU led 13-2 at the break.
Katie Doherty paced Christopher Newport with three goals and four assists. Bonnie Hansen added two goals and three assists while Kristyn Hankins had three scores and one helper. Kristen Conques finished with one goal and three assists, Christine Mike scored three times, Kylene Jennings and Shayna Sargent each finished with two scores.
Brooke Falck added one goal and one assist while Natalie Gilbert and Lisa Thomson had one goal each.
Christopher Newport out-shot the Cougars, 32-9. Gayle Robinson had three saves in goal for her first collegiate win.
The Lady Captains are now 5-3 overall and 4-0 in the USA South. CNU returns to action Sunday as they return home to take on Guilford with start time set for 1 pm.
