Women's Lacrosse Upended By Catholic, 13-9
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad fell 13-9 to Catholic Sunday afternoon at Captains Field.
Catholic scored the first four goals of the game and it wasn't until 11:22 remaining in the first half that the Lady Captains found the back of the net. CUA would score four straight to lead 8-1 and Christopher Newport would cut the lead to six, with a goal just before halftime.
In the second half, Catholic scored the first two goals to lead by eight, 10-2. CNU would counter with two goals to cut the lead back to six with 22:04 left in the game. The Lady Captains would make a valiant effort to come from behind, but ran out of time.
Brooke Falck scored three goals to pace Christopher Newport. Kristen Conques added one goal and two assists while Kristyn Hankins scored twice. Katie Doherty added one goal and one assist while Kylene Jennings and Lisa Thomson had one goal each. Christine Mike and Shayna Sargent each contributed one assist in the win.
Catholic out-shot the Lady Captains, 31-26. Gayle Robinson started for CNU and played the first half, making six saves. Theresa Sparks played the second half and also made six saves.
CUA improves to 5-3 on the year while Christopher Newport falls to 7-4. The Lady Captains return to action next Saturday as they travel to Methodist with start time set for 1 pm.
