Women's Lacrosse Comes From Four Down To Win At Lynchburg, 17-15, Ties Program Record For Most Wins In A Season

LYNCHBURG, VA - Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse team trailed by four goals in the first half and came from behind to defeat Lynchburg, 17-15, Saturday afternoon.

Today's win gives the team its 11th, tying the program's all-time record for most wins in a season. The Lady Captains finished 11-8 in 2006

The Hornets scored the first four goals of the game until CNU finally got on the board almost 15 minutes into the first half. The Lady Captains cut the lead to 4-2 three minutes later. Lynchburg and Christopher Newport each scored five times over the final 16+ minutes and the Hornets led 9-7 at halftime.

In the second half, CNU responded to the deficit nine of the next 12 goals to take a 16-12 lead with 5:30 left in the game. LC countered by scoring three of the next four goals to cut the lead to two to provide the final margin.

Kristen Conques led the way for Christopher Newport with four goals and two assists. Kristyn Hankins scored four times and assisted on another.

Natalie Gilbert had three goals, Bonnie Hansen added two goals and one assist and Brooke Falck scored twice. Shayna Sargent contributed one goal and one assist, Christine Mike found the back of the net once and Katie Doherty assisted on three scores.

Theresa Sparks played the first half in goal giving up nine goals and making six saves. Gayle Robinson played the second half to pick up the win while allowing six scores and making three stops.

The Lady Captains out-shot Lynchburg, 31-29.

Christopher Newport improves to 11-4 on the year while the Hornets fall to 7-9. CNU finishes its regular season schedule next Saturday as they travel to Frostburg St. with start time set for 1 pm.
