Women's Lacrosse Falls To Roanoke In First Round Of NCAA Tournament, 14-6

SALEM, VA - Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-6 decision at Roanoke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Wednesday afternoon.

The Maroons scored the first four goals of the game and nine of the first 10 to take a 9-1 lead at halftime. CNU's only goal in the first half was scored by Kristyn Hankins off a feed from Kristen Conques with 17:08 left to play in the opening stanza.

Roanoke scored the first goal of the second half for its largest lead of the game, 10-1. The Lady Captains scored five times in the second half.

It was the second straight year Christopher Newport has lost to an Old Dominion Athletic Conference squad in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. CNU lost at Washington & Lee last year, 19-9.

Conques concluded her CNU career with two goals and three assists in her final game. Hankins scored twice and added an assist. Brooke Falck and Katie Doherty each totaled one score.

The Maroons out-shot the Lady Captains, 27-22. Theresa Sparks and Gayle Robinson split time in goal. Sparks finished with eight saves while Robinson stopped four shots.

Christopher Newport finishes the year with an overall record of 12-5, the program's best finish in its seven years of existence.
