Men's Basketball Picked To Repeat As USA South Champions
FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Christopher Newport's men's basketball team was picked to repeat as USA South champions when they were picked to finish first in the 2006-2007 USA South Preseason poll, released Wednesday.
The Captains finished 2005-2006 with a record of 20-8 overall and 9-3 in the USA South. CNU defeated Averett in the USA South Tournament championship game 89-88 in overtime before falling 102-96 to Lincoln (PA) in the NCAA Tournament.
CNU received six first place votes for 36 points. NC Wesleyan was picked to finish second with 28 points, followed by Averett with 25 points and one first place vote.
The Captains kick-off the 2006-2007 season on Friday, November 17 at home as they host York (PA) with tip-off set for 7:30 pm.
