Men's Lacrosse to Host Second Annual Lacrosse for Smiles Fall Tournament

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport University men's lacrosse coach Chris Swanenburg has announced that the Captains will host the second annual ‘Lacrosse for Smiles' play day in Northern Virginia on Sunday, October 7.

The charitable event, which will again be presented by Northern Virginia-based TripleEDGE Lacrosse , enters its second year and benefits Operation Smile. Operation Smile is a not-for-profit volunteer medical services organization that provides free reconstructive surgery and related health care to children and young adults around the world who suffer with facial deformities. The inaugural Lacrosse for Smiles raised over $6,400 for Operation Smile.

“We are excited to be working again with TripleEDGE Lacrosse. They helped make last year's event a huge success and, together, we were able to help a very worthy cause,” said Swanenburg. “This year we are expanding the day and hope that we will be able to bring even more attention to Operation Smile.

Joining CNU in the round-robin play day will be 2006 Lacrosse for Smiles participants Franklin & Marshall, Randolph-Macon and St. Mary's. Also participating in this year's field are Susquehanna and Swarthmore. Games will be held at Old Redskin Park in Herndon , Virginia with the first face-offs taking place at 1:00 p.m.
