Men's Lacrosse Raises Over $6,400 For Local Charity

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's men's lacrosse team raised more than $6,400 for Operation Smile at the inaugural Lacrosse for Smiles Tournament.

Operation Smile is a not-for-profit volunteer medical services organization that provides free reconstructive surgery and related health care to children and young adults around the world who suffer with facial deformities. Operation Smile is headquartered in Norfolk, VA.

CNU hosted a four-team fall play day in Northern Virginia on October 8. Joining CNU in the play day were St. Mary's (MD), Randolph-Macon and Franklin & Marshall. TripleEDGE Lacrosse served as the title sponsor for Lacrosse for Smiles.

“It was a great day of lacrosse and we really appreciate the support of the visiting teams and sponsors," CNU Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Chris Swanenburg said. "Together, we have made a difference in the lives of many deserving young children.”

“It was a pleasure to participate in the inaugural Lacrosse for Smiles," Ginny Chiesa, Events Coordinator & Development Assistant for Operation Smile said. "Being able to bring together the common thread that links the players, fans, and sponsors of lacrosse to provide smiles to 27 children this year was a delight and I look forward to next year.”
