Men's Tennis Drops 6-3 Decision At Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Christopher Newport's men's tennis squad dropped a 6-3 decision at Methodist Saturday afternoon and the Captains are now in a three-way tie for first.

In singles action, Chris Fletcher defeated No. 17 (Atlantic South) Eddie Glidewell (CNU) 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1; No. 15 John Mook (CNU) defeated Mike Layton 6-0, 6-1; John Braig (CNU) defeated Andrew Freeman 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3; David Hardy defeated Dylan Young (CNU) 6-1, 6-3; Louis Cisti defeated Steve Myers (CNU) 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5; and Matthew Siegel defeated David Weiner (CNU) 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles play, No. 8 Glidewell and Mook (CNU) defeated C. Fletcher and Andrew Fletcher 8-6; Freeman and Hardy defeated Braig and Myers (CNU) 8-5 at No. 2 and Layton and Siegel defeated Weiner and Young 8-4.

The Captains, the Monarchs and Averett are all tied for first atop the USA South standings. For seeding purposes, a coin flip will determine who gets the bye in next week's USA South Conference Tournament starting Friday in Burlington, NC.

Methodist is now 8-8 overall and 5-1 in the USA South. Christopher Newport falls to 12-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

The Captains conclude the regular season Tuesday as they travel to 9th-ranked Mary Washington with start time set for 3 pm.
