Four Softball Players Named To VaSID's All-State Team

EMORY, VA - Four Christopher Newport softball players were named to the Virginia Sports Information Director's All-State Team released this week.

Earning First Team honors was pitcher Janet Fairchild. Fairchild had a solid junior season where she was named the USA South's Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-Conference. Fairchild went 15-1 on the mound with a 1.62 ERA and 61 shutouts. Opponents hit just .218 against her in 2007.

Earning Second Team honors was Margit Severin, Katie Moyers and Lauren Pleveich.

Severin led the Lady Captains with a .457 batting average, 59 hits, 17 doubles and 44 RBI. She was a First Team All-Conference choice and was a First Team All-Region selection by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Severin also had three home runs, scored 22 runs, and drew 21 walks.

Moyers was named Second Team All-Conference and was selected to the USA South's All-Tournament Team. The former USA South Rookie of the Year hit .411 with 53 hits and 39 runs scored. She also had nine doubles and drove in 24 runs.

Pleveich, the team's designated player, led the squad in home runs with five and drove in 36 while hitting .374 with 46 hits. She was a First Team All-USA South pick and was named Second Team All-Region.
