Sports Medicine Forms Now Available On-Line
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - CNU's Department of Sports Medicine has announced that all forms for the 2007-2008 school year are now available on-line. No forms from the previous year will be accepted. If you will be under 18 on the reporting date, contact Chris Jones for all necessary paperwork. Those forms are not available on the web and forms from previous years WILL NOT be accepted. Chris enters her 25th year as head athletic trainer at Christopher Newport University. While she oversees all aspects of sports medicine here at CNU, she is responsible for providing care to CNU's women's volleyball, women's soccer, men's basketball, and women's softball.
After completing her NATA certification in 1982, Chris became the first athletic trainer in CNU's history and has built the sports medicine department from scratch. She was responsible for every varsity sport at CNU until the late 1990's. During her time here, she has worked with every sport with the exception of men's football and women's lacrosse. On January 29, 2000, Chris was inducted into the Christopher Newport University 's Athletic Hall of Fame.
Chris received her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Keen State College in New Hampshire in 1977 and then later completed her Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in athletic training from Old Dominion University in 1983.
Out of all aspects of the profession, Chris finds the conditioning and rehabilitation to be most enjoyable for her. In her spare time, Chris is an avid golfer and loves to be on the golf course whenever she can. |

Chad's is entering his fourth year as the assistant athletic trainer for Christopher Newport University. He is responsible for providing care to CNU's men's soccer, women's field hockey, men's baseball and men’s and women’s cross-country teams. Chad also acts as the clinical supervisor for the women’s basketball team and men’s and women’s track team which is covered by two of CNU’s graduate assistant athletic trainers.
Chad also serves as an adjunct professor in ODU’s graduate athletic training program teaching a course in strength and conditioning and rehabilitation
A native of Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia , Canada, Chad received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree from Saint Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada in May of 2001. He joined CNU after completing his Master of Science Education in Athletic Training from Old Dominion University in May of 2004.
Chad currently resides in Newport News and in his spare time, enjoys running, golfing, working out, or anything that involves being outside. |

After serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the past two years, Lacey is returning to the CNU Sports Medicine Team for her first year as a staff athletic trainer. She is responsible for providing care for CNU’s football and men's lacrosse teams.
Lacey hails from the great state of South Dakota, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2005 from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD, with a double major in Athletic Training and Exercise Science. From there, she moved to Virginia and recently completed her Master of Science in Education in athletic training from Old Dominion University in May, 2007.
Along with her sport responsibilities, Lacey also serves as an adjunct faculty member teaching Health 200. She is currently working toward a CSCS certification and in her free time enjoys traveling, running, basketball, softball, and learning to golf. |

Jennifer is entering her second year as a graduate assistant member of CNU’s sports medicine team. She will be working with the football program once again this fall. She will also be responsible for our men’s and women’s tennis teams as well as helping out with our men’s and women’s track and field teams and men’s lacrosse team.
Jennifer hails from Springfield, Ohio and received her Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Athletic Training from Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio. During that time, she worked with men’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and softball.
Currently in her second year of study, Jennifer is working towards a Master of Science Education in Athletic Training at Old Dominion University which she plans to complete in May of 2008. She enjoys running and relaxing at the beach in her free time. |

Tracy is serving as a first year graduate assistant on CNU’s sports medicine team. She will be working with CNU’s football team this fall and with men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track for the upcoming winter and spring.
Tracy comes from Emporium, Pennsylvania and received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in Bradford, PA. While pursuing her Bachelors degree, Tracy gained DIII experience with men’s and women’s soccer and basketball, women’s volleyball, baseball and softball. She also gained football and wrestling experience at the high school level.
She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Education degree in Athletic Training from Old Dominion University. In her spare time, Tracy enjoys playing a variety of sports recreationally, hunting and being outdoors, and most of all spending time with her dog, Mocha. |

Ryan is entering his second semester as a graduate assistant with the CNU Sport's Medicine Team. His responsibilities for this year will include Football, Women’s Basketball and Women’s Lacrosse.
Ryan, who is from Dunkirk, NY, received his Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Slippery Rock University. While at Slippery Rock, Ryan covered Football, Baseball, Volleyball and track and field. He also worked summer camps for two years and volunteered at the National Wheelchair Basketball Championship Tournament and the Special Olympics.
Ryan is working towards a Master of Science in Education with Emphasis in Athletic Training at Old Dominion University. He enjoys golfing, reading and rollerblading. |
