Clark Wins Shot Put, Crowned National Champion
TERRE HAUTE, IN - Christopher Newport's Rachael Clark captured the NCAA Indoor National Championship in the shot put on day two of the NCAA Indoor Championships hosted by Rose-Hulman Saturday afternoon.
Clark finished first in her flight with a toss of 45' 4.25 inches (13.82 meters). In the finals, Clark put up impressive numbers in all of her tosses. Her winning toss went 46' 8.25" (14.23 meters). Clark becomes the 32nd individual (male or female) in program history to win a national championship.
Greg Bolton qualified Friday for the finals of the 55-meter hurdles with a time 7.62. In the finals, Bolton ran a time of 7.58 and finished in sixth place.
In the men's triple jump, Isaac Bell finished with a leap of 45-9 1/4 inches but did not qualify for the finals.
For their performances at the NCAA Indoor Championships, both Bolton and Clark were named All-Americans.
CNU's track & field squad returns to action March 31 for the start of the outdoor season. CNU hosts 26th annual Captains Classic on the Belk Track.
