Collins Named State Player Of The Year

DANVILLE, VA - Christopher Newport volleyball player Brittany Collins was named the 2007 State Player of the Year, the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association announced Friday afternoon.

Collins, a junior from Richmond, VA was named the USA South Conference Player of the Year. She finished the season with a .338 hitting average and was named to the All-South Region First Team. She tallied 1,216 assists, 370 digs, and 108 service aces on the season.

Collins was also a First Team All-USA South pick and she was also a First Team All-State choice this year. She also became the first player in program history to earn First Team All-South honors and became the first All-American in program history when she was named to the Honorable Mention squad.

Teammate Liz Bush was named to the Second Team All-State. Bush led the squad in kills with 342. She finished with an attack percentage of .230 and totaled 75 blocks on the year. Bush, along with Collins, was a First Team All-USA South pick.

Averett's Samantha Kirby was named the State's Rookie of the Year while Washington & Lee Head Coach Bryan Snyder was named Coach of the Year.
