Volleyball Picked To Repeat As USA South Champions
FAYETTEVILLE, VA - Christopher Newport's volleyball team, who shared the regular season title in 2005, has been tabbed to win the 2006 USA South Championship as voted on by the coaches.
The Lady Captains, who also won the USA South Tournament title in 2005, have captured at least a share of the regular season title in four of the past five seasons. Christopher Newport finished 32-6 overall, and tied the school record for wins in a season.
CNU received seven first place votes and 49 points. Greensboro picked up the other first place vote and 42 total points.
The Lady Captains kick-off the 2006 season on Friday, Sept. 1 at the Juniata College Asics Invitational. CNU will play Juniata, who went 37-2 and lost in the national championship match a year ago, at 4 pm and then finish the day by playing Muskingum (OH) at 6 pm.
