GREENSBORO, NC - Christopher Newport's volleyball team won the final three games in thrilling fashion to capture its second consecutive USA South Conference Tournament Championship Saturday evening and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in five years.
With the win, CNU tied a school record for wins in a season with 32, set in 2004 (32-8) and 1985 (32-9).
The Lady Captains lost the first two games by scores of 30-16 and 30-18 before roaring back to win the final three games by scores of 30-16, 30-9 and 15-11.
Ellen Koch led the way for CNU with 11 kills. Amber Bradshaw finished with 10 kills and eight digs. Erin Bradshaw finished with eight kills, six digs and four aces. Brittany Collins added four kills, 35 assists and five digs.
Collins was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Amber and Erin Bradshaw and Koch were each named to the All-Tournament Team.
The win snapped Greensboro's 27-match winning streak in Hanes Gym. GC is now 29-7 and hoping for an at-large bid while the Lady Captains are now 32-5 on the year. CNU will await its fate in the NCAA Tournament when the pairings are released Sunday evening.
