ATLANTA, GA - Christopher Newport's volleyball team saw its 2-0 lead slip away to 23rd ranked Trinity (TX) Thursday night falling to the Tigers 3-2 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Lady Captains jumped to an early 2-0 lead, winning 30-28 and 35-33. The momentum changed considerably to Trinity's favor in game three as the Lady Captains fell 30-18. CNU trailed by double digits in gams four but mustered a comeback to climb to within two but fell just short, losing 30-25. Game five was a back and forth contest. No one led by more than two as there were 14 ties and four different lead changes in the final frame. Trinity went on to win game five 18-16.
Christopher Newport was paced by freshman Ellen Koch with 16 kills and six digs. Amber Bradshaw, playing in her final match in a CNU uniform went out with 15 kills and 18 digs while twin sister Erin contributed 13 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Sarah Brown added 13 kills. Setter Brittany Collins had eight kills, 53 assists and 13 digs. Jenna Williams finished with 20 digs.
The Lady Captains conclude 2005 with an overall record of 32-6, the second consecutive season CNU has finished with 32 wins, which tied a school record.
