Bessey Named USA South Women's Basketball Player Of The Week

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Christopher Newport women's basketball player Alicia Bessey was named the USA South Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

Bessey was instrumental in the Lady Captains two conference wins last week. Coming off the bench for Head Coach Carolyn Hunter, Bessey averaged 20 points on 17-of-21 (81%) shooting, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Against NC Wesleyan, Bessey had 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting to go along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals in just 16 minutes of action. In CNU's win over Ferrum, she set new career-highs in both points (25) on 10-of-11 shooting and rebounds (10). Bessey also had two assists, one block and one steal.

The Lady Captains are 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the USA South. CNU returns to action Tuesday as they take on Averett at 5:30 pm.
