Women's Basketball Falls At Greensboro, 82-69
GREENSBORO, NC - Christopher Newport's women's basketball team saw its five-game winning streak snapped Sunday afternoon as Greensboro defeated the Lady Captains, 82-69.
The game was tied 32-32 at the break. The Pride scored 50 points in the second half on 17-of-26 (65%) shooting, including 2-of-7 from behind the arc and 14-of-17 (82%) from the free throw line.
After shooting 44% from the field in the first half, the Lady Captains faltered from the floor, finishing 15-of-43 (35%), 2-of-10 from long range and 5-of-7 (71%) from the line.
CNU could not stop the duo of Jamie Motsinger and Staci Humphrey. The two combined for 48 points. Humphrey led all scorers with 27 on 8-of-15 shooting, including 3-of-9 from downtown and 8-of-11 from the free throw line. Motsinger was 8-of-11 from the field, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc and 3-of-3 from the line. Bobbie Barnes finished with 19 points.
GC finished the game 30-of-56 (54%) from the floor, 6-of-16 (38%) from behind the arc and 16-of-21 (76%) from the charity stripe.
Candace Bryant paced CNU with 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting and 6-of-8 from the line. She also had 13 rebounds. Nikki Rowland finished with 12 points and seven rebounds and Alicia Bessey added 12 points and six boards off the bench.
Christopher Newport was 27-of-70 (39%) from the field, 5-of-16 (31%) on three-pointers and 10-of-14 (71%) from the line.
Greensboro improves to 12-5 overall and 6-1 in the USA South. CNU falls to 11-7 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
The Lady Captains return to action Wednesday as they host Shenandoah with tip set for 5:30 pm.
